Atmospheric power generation that involves collecting charged particles that can be harnessed. The brilliant thing about them is the fact that these charged particles are in the atmosphere day or night and during storms.

Collecting power from the atmosphere requires no mechanical systems like wind and isn't limited by the solar cycle. There are a number of significant collectors used in experiments across the world, the most significant being the Space shuttle mission STS-75 where a tethered satellite collected power from the atmosphere. STS-75 collected TOO MUCH power, that the engineers didnt design to accommodate.

We literally have a massive source of power in the sky that has had almost no interest from the scientific community as of recently, despite the massive demand for renewable power sources. We keep building these massive solar farms that can only operate during the day and wind farms that can't operate during storms and struggle to produce power in calm conditions.
Is this shit just another "free energy" conspiracy/hoax or is it a legitimate way to solve some of our power problems.

STS-75 mission scientists hoped to deploy the tether to a distance of 20.7 kilometers (12.9mi). Over 19 kilometers of the tether were deployed before the tether broke. It remained in orbit for a number of weeks and was easily visible from the ground, appearing something like a small but surprisingly bright fluorescent light traveling through the sky.

The electric conductor of the tether was a copper braid wound around a nylon (Nomex) string. It was encased inteflon-like insulation, with an outer cover ofkevlar, inside a nylon (Nomex) sheath. The culprit turned out to be the innermost core, made of a porous material which, during its manufacture, trapped many bubbles of air, at atmospheric pressure.
Later vacuum-chamber experiments suggested that the unwinding of the reel uncovered pinholes in the insulation. That in itself would not have caused a major problem, because the ionosphere around the tether, under normal circumstance, was too rarefied to divert much of the current. However, the air trapped in the insulation changed that. As it bubbled out of the pinholes, the high voltage of the nearby tether, about 3500 volts, converted it into a plasma (in a way similar to the ignition of a fluorescent tube), a relatively dense one and therefore a much better conductor of electricity. This plasma diverted to the metal of the shuttle and from there to the ionospheric return circuit. That current was enough to melt the cable.

Ya'll know the ionosphere is more than 30 miles up, right? That's five and a half Mt. Everests. The "tethers" work because they're suspended from a spacecraft. It would be a ridiculous engineering challenge to build and maintain at 30 mile high tower, and if you're proposing using satellites and "beaming" down the power in some sort of microwave fashion, you might as just well collect solar energy instead.

The U.S. has multiple deep science research projects which use skunk works as a cover. The main development happens at individual sites scattered across the country and are done by regular contracting companies. If you've paid any attention to the news you already know a number of them. Lockheed martin Booz allen hamilton, etc. The individual components have no previous analogs, which is unusual as nearly all of our technology today is a derivative of a previous technology. For example, OLED or organic LEDs have no previous research from before the 1950s. The work is entirely novel and simply springs into existence around this time. OLED is the derivative of experimenting with these different organic substances which have not been previously identified before hand. While it is easy to call this reverse engineering, it's subtler than that. It's a reverse build up through imitation and development. Each stage working out the developmental problems that arose while trying to mimic the same basic design.
Which is the unusual part and the indicator to me while I was in that there was something more unusual going on.
