As powerful as God is, he cannot tinker with everything he pleases, because he deliberately created things he cannot change - at least not without creating a shockwave that would unravel swaths of creation he has a right to keep intact.
One of these things is time. When God created the universe he also created time, and he set the world we live in into motion through time. God must therefore exist in the system of time he made or dismantle it in ways that would do untold harm to the facets of creation which are built around it.
A thing about time you may not know is that it can be sped up or slowed down. What you also may not know is that these are things that happen under specific conditions, which are governed by the rules of reality set down by God in the act of creation. In short, he can slow down time, but he would have to push objects around in ways that would kill the creatures inhabiting them. He can slow time around himself, but to do so would involve bolting around the universe like a superhero for no sane reason. The Lord has chosen to REST. Though he may intervene in our lives from time to time, I don't recall the Good Book stating that he dusted himself off and declared that it was time for him to work again.
So, God's actions are restricted by what he can do within a span of time, and he is also not a slave. He has a right to rest and to let the universe move ahead as it will according to the systems he has made, though countless terrible things happen to us all over the world, usually because we have built our homes in places that are only safe some of the time, because we're willing to take that risk, supposedly. Then disaster strikes and we revoke that willingness and curse God when the consequences of our gambling wrecks our lives.
Well that's what prayer is for, and I think it works some of the time, but you cannot expect it to work if you continue to present it as a list of demands, and it's not fair to expect help or protection unasked.

I don’t believe in god because I never felt the presence of one, and I don’t find a Christian god any more or less compelling than a Muslim god, or Hindu or Greek gods, etc. It’s entirely possible that one of the many gods people have thought of exists, or that a god people haven’t thought of exists, or that no god exists. I guess I’ll have to wait and find out. The only thing I can do in the meantime is be good to the people around me and try to live a virtuous life. Hopefully if there is a god, he/ she will be forgiving of my skepticism and judge me based on how I lived.
