I'm no holocaust denier, nor am I a nazi sympathizer, but history is written by the victors. I know it's not as simple as "The nazis were evil and hated jews blah blah" that we're taught. There had to be a reason that was buried under propaganda after the war.
I don't want conspiracy theories, though. I'd like historical journals, annotated works with sources, primary sources, etc.

the hatred of jews was long established. it was from the middle ages asn before, adn never went away. there was a lossening of persective laws in teh 1830's, but societal attitdes were ingrained.
jews did not integrate well (they were not allowed to) adn anti jewish humour, and real feeling, was rife.

imagine a modern Klan type rallying up the good ole boys in the soutern states - it would not take long to get them calling balcks niggers and muttering about ropes. make that official policy for ten years, ramping up the laws, making them non citizens, banning them from work or owning business, and blaming them for everything - it would be easy to see them in camps, or in chains, and for quiet mass murder to go un-noticed.

my understanding of that text, and i dont speak german, is that it is talking about the feeding of the inmates - that there is a debate about feeding them more because they are starving - that they need to be better fed because they are needed as slaves - that the policy (of deliberate starvation adn low food supply, a deliberate one, not caused by pol meme allied bombing or any of that shit, but a deliberate policy of starvation) previously employed is counter productive for war production

it massively predates Weimar, which was not that bad actually. Hitler had no support until 1929, after the Wall Street Crash, which forced the US loans to be recalled. It wasn't the wiemar years - it was Wall Street gambling that made him popular.

Read David Irving's Hitler's War. It's a great military history and provides some genuine insight into the reasoning behind a lot of the military moves that followed and led to WWII. 1938-1940, Hitler was honestly pushing as far as he could, trying to find the line, and not fully expecting a retaliation. Then he got a retaliation.
