its not about trade, its about buying existing local companies, the political power and lobbying that go's with it.
For example powerful lobbyists can influence whether or not some products are ok to import due to safety standers met etc. imagine those lobbyists are now backed by big chinese companies that just bought half the country so to speak. they are not buying companies for trade, they are doing it for power and influence.
Don't know what world you live in, but Europe isn't happy with China either. They've already issued China a warning and if China refuses to change then Europe will be applying it's own sanctions and tariffs on Chinese goods.
