Baptism doesn't save you but it is still a requirement of salvation, at least on our end. Read Hebrews chapter 11 and you'll see that faith always involves a response to God. Your only 2 options are saying baptism is just the instrument of salvation which disproves sola fide, because faith was supposed to be the only instrument of salvation. Saying that faith and baptismal regeneration is the instrument of salvation is more or less the Catholic view.
Your other option is saying that baptism is not an instrument of salvation, but effectively what saves you, but that disproves the protestant doctrine on justification from the alien righteousness of Christ. You're really saying that being regenerated saves you, which is the Catholic view, and means therefore salvation can be lost if you lose your regenerated state.
There is no way for you to fit the regeneration of baptism into the Protestant worldview, and of course you can't. It's a false gospel. When they try, they end up saying the same things that Catholics do and refute their own positions.
