I got excommunicated by family and friends as a teenager for claiming I could think manually and they were on autopilot and I was obsessed with it and I used the term NPC on them this was mid 00s and I was actually deranged and in They Live mode and going mad like pussyhats talk about Red Dawn that people couldn't construct manual sentences/thoughts.
I had a headmanifesto that 'autism' in the internet sense was like when you tuned inbetween channels to the static or went off script and social ostracization for not wrapping up interactions with punchlines and going into too much detail about things set off the NPC into bully mode to maintain their skynet reign of terror. Aspergers is where you literally don't get humour and can't read emotions or faces but I was fully aware but resisting NPC type behaviours to the extreme like saying rubber baby buggy bumpers to prove you're not a movie.
It makes big boss NPCs really mad when you point out they can't think manually, but letting them down gently not just blurting it out ofc. Ask them why do they only talk in a patter, feign sagelike wiseness instead of actually custom insights, why does curiosity and asking questions about things that aren't shallow gossip pop culture shite make them uncomfortable, why do they imitate the speech patterns of sitcoms and panel shows and it's like they want to reach to their shirt collar's hidden mic and call the NPC police.
