India has approved a $5.43 billion deal to purchase S-400 Triumf anti-aircraft missile systems from Russia, despite US threats of sanctions against New Delhi, local media reported, citing government sources. The Cabinet Committee on Security, chaired by PM Narendra Modi, has cleared the “game-changing acquisition” on Wednesday, according to the Times of India. The move comes ahead of Russian President Vladimir Putin’s visit early next month.
The Indian Air Force (IAF), which operates the country’s air defenses, is expected to receive first S-400 squadron within 24 months after the contract’s signing. The rest will be delivered within the next 4-5 years. India will have to pay 15 percent of total costs on inking the contract, while the rest will be linked to deliveries of the systems, according to the report. The Indian government, however, has not confirmed its readiness to ink the deal so far.
The S-400 Triumf is the most sophisticated Russian anti-air system available on the market, capable of shooting down ballistic missiles at a range of 60km (37 miles). The system can utilize at least four types of anti-aircraft missiles, suited for different targets. An S-400 unit, composed of several launchers, command and logistics vehicles, can track up to 300 airborne targets at a range of 600km (373 miles) and engage up to 36 of them simultaneously.
Does anyone know what kind of AGMs the Israeli F-35s have? It doesn't seem capable of carrying Delilahs. It seems that the S-300 can spot an F-35 at a distance of about 90km so it would be interesting to figure out if the jews have any stand-off munitions they could launch from the F-35 outside of that range.

It will be shot from standoff ranges regardless of the launching platform though, making the entire argument meaningless. But since it's a subsonic missile, Pantsirs will probably be able to deal with it, if employed in the area. To also answer your question, the Israelis operate many AGMs. Shrikes, Hellfires, Popeyes you name it. But only the Delilah will be effective due to range issues. Maybe the Standard, and that's only if they are brave and ready to make a multi-point attack. I can't disagree. "Natural" was bad wording on my part. But i do not trust the chinks, and no one should.

It's a standoff loytering missile user, they could launch it from an unstealthy F-35 200 kilometers away and leave unscathed. They probably wouldn't try to get much closer, though the IAF is known for pulling off silly stunts. These stunts sometimes play off, like in Mole Cricket, and sometimes they don't like when their F-16 was shot down earlier this year.
Just hope that they try to pull off a close range SEAD mission to help sell F-35s. My gut feeling tells me that they won't dare, but then again Lebanese (Israeli) airspace isn't that far.
If an F-35 drops out of the sky, the US will be fuming far more than Israel.

It's a genuine complication. They will probably have to deal with the systems directly first if they want to seriously keep up their airborne domination. Sure, they technically do have experience on dealing with S-300s. Our S-300s, in joint training missions. But they are monkey models. I think this will be more of a test of their commitment to Syria more than anything else in the long-term. AC 7 soon.
