Economically speaking why doesn't this work as well as capitalism.

Communism denies human nature, while capitalism relies on it.
Too many non whites. If there wasnt billions of browns to feed we would have luxury space communism by now.
The bad side of human nature, maybe two thirds of people are greedy sociopaths but a tenth of people are perfectly selfless and motivated by either diligence or charity. A better system would incentivise those people to breed.
But yes, Marxist socialism is dysgenic. Nationalist socialism, maybe not as much, but when you get to that level you've created something death God scary.
Price controls. In capitalism the market sets the price based on supply / demand / etc. In communism you have a top down approach where someone(s) have to not only set millions of prices, but also be an expertise in whatever area they happen to be overseeing.
>a better system would
There it is. It’s always gonna work if only [fill in the blank] would happen! You people are as predictable as you are greasy
Capitalism has a problem with waist lines, communism has a problem with bread lines.
Imagine being a manager at some factory or store or something and trying to micromanage how each worker mops the floor or something like that. Communism doesn't work because you cant' effectively manage all state enterprises centrally. There's too much information to process. Also, the lack of a real market makes the information that you do receive unreliable.
The Romanian had a saying for it: the goat must die.
I have 1 goat. My neighbour has 2 goats. Communism says we must be equal. The goat must die. Now we are equal.
Excuse me?
