>US military builds new base near Syrian Army lines: Kurdish commander
Xelil Şirvan, a commander of a group of Kurdish Peshmerga fighters, told Sputnik that a US military base had been detected near the town of Al-Qa’im in northwest Iraq on the border with Syria.
“According to our data, the United States has set up a new military base in the strategically important region of Al-Qa’im in Anbar province on the Iraqi-Syrian border. Americans are building up [their] military presence in the region, which is why Iraqi government forces have sent more military reinforcements to Al-Qa’im to boost border protection,” he said.
A spokesperson for the Syrian Democratic Forces, a Kurdish-led militant group, detailed that the new base was involved in an operation the SDF fighters launched earlier in the month against the last Daesh* stronghold in Hajin in eastern Syria.
Al-Qa’im, an Iraqi town which lies near the strategic border crossing that links to the Syrian town of Abu Kamal, was retaken in the beginning of November last year; later the Iraqi military announced that it had restored control over the checkpoints on the border with Syria.
I don’t actually see how the things described in your pic are necessarily bad. I’d like to talk a lot more about this, would you mind debating me

>Turkish, French FMs discuss Syria, bilateral relations
Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu on Sunday met his French counterpart Jean-Yves Le Drian in Paris, a Turkish diplomatic source said.
The two ministers discussed bilateral relations, regional issues and the prevailing situation in Syria, said the source, who asked not to be named due to restrictions on speaking to the media.
The meeting lasted around for one and half hours, the source added.
Turkey and Russia recently came to an agreement calling for preserving the current status of Idlib and establishing a demilitarized buffer zone around the area, paving the way for the return of Syrians to the northern province.
Located near the Turkish border, Idlib province is home to more than 3 million Syrians, many of whom fled from other cities following attacks by regime forces.
On Friday German Chancellor Angela Merkel said that an international conference will be held between the leaders of Germany, Turkey, Russia and France in October over the conflict in Syria.
Syrian Prime Minister Imad Khamis invited Iranian companies to invest in his country in a meeting between secretary of Iran’s Headquarters for Expanding Economic Ties with Iraq and Syria Hassan Danaeifar in Damascus last week.
“Iran is very competent in many economic fields, including industry and urban development,” Khamis was quoted as saying by IRNA as saying on Tuesday.
Danaeifar also met with Syrian businesspeople and traders on Monday where he emphasized the need to expand economic and commercial interactions on top of the congenial political and cultural ties between the two countries.
An Iranian economic delegation headed by Deputy Minister of Roads and Urban Development Amir Amini visited the Syrian capital Damascus last month.

>Islamic State fighters add complications to U.S. counterterrorism mission in Philippines
A growing diaspora of battle-hardened Islamic State fighters fleeing lost territory in Syria and Iraq have returned to the southern Philippines, providing a major complication just as the Trump administration quietly ramps up a U.S. counterterrorism operation in the Pacific island nation.
There are more Islamic State-affiliated foreign fighters in Southeast Asia, especially from jihadi groups based in the southern Philippines‘ autonomous Muslim Mindanao region, than there ever were battling U.S. forces in Afghanistan and Iraq during the height of the U.S.-led wars there, according to figures compiled by the Washington-based Center for Strategic and International Studies.
A State Department assessment puts the Philippines for the first time among the five countries with the most terrorist attacks. The Philippines, along with Afghanistan, India, Iraq and Pakistan, were the sites of nearly 60 percent of terrorist attacks last year, State Department officials said in their latest assessment of terrorist activity around the globe.

Ruptly youtube.com/watch?v=nyHqFk0AEBM Syria is the victim of instability created by oil conflicts in the Middle East fought since the end of WWI, Austrian Foreign Minister Karin Kneissl said during her UN General Assembly address in New York City on Saturday.
"The recent wars, imposed on the Middle East, were fought in the name of oil," said Kneissl who had opened her keynote address in Arabic.
"Now Syria is a victim of the instability created by these wars," stated Austria’s foreign minister in her UNGA speech.
She said the Middle East had been "shaped by the oil business" following the collapse of the Ottoman Empire and the re-drawing of the region's borders.
Kneissl who alternated between Arabic, French, Spanish and English in her address criticised international authorities including the UN for losing their effectiveness in handling crises including that of Yemen and Syria, saying "we get drunk with words like reconstruction, stabilisation, and constitution."
"The populations, the children, only seek to survive," she pointed out as she voiced Austria’s commitment to contributing to mine clearing operations in Syria and increasing its humanitarian commitment in Yemen.

>Three years of Russia strikes on Syria kill 18,000
More than 18,000 people, nearly half of them civilians, have been killed in Russian air strikes on Syria since Moscow began its game-changing intervention exactly three years ago, a monitor said Sunday.
Russia, for its part, said its "accurate" strikes had killed 85,000 "terrorists".
A steadfast ally of Syria's ruling regime, Russia began carrying out bombing raids in the country on September 30, 2015 -- more than four years into the devastating conflict.
Since then, they have killed 18,096 people, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.
"That number includes 7,988 civilians, or nearly half of the total," said Observatory chief Rami Abdel Rahman.
ships are larger lumbering targets. odds are enemy weapons are already on board. either way the next war will not be decided by slow, heavy surface ships
we will probably lose a few. same goes with manned airplanes, manned infantry, etc.

man windows 10 truly sucks. what makes them think that people even like their win 8,8.1 and 10 look?
“It doesn’t necessarily take the resources of a major nation-state to challenge U.S. Navy warships. China for instance is building up a large navy and invests in long-range, ship-killing missiles. Iran can’t build a large navy but it does invest in swarms of small missile boats.
Like a swarm of insects, a swarm of boats can pose a threat as a larger, far more expensive warship might not be able to swat them all—and a single missile with enough punch can be devastating”
