Typically a lot of lib arts majors go on to grad school. Increasingly I notice a lot of STEM degrees recommend grad school as well due to the competitiveness of their fields, so lib arts are just ahead of the curve regarding the increasing uselessness of a bachelor's degree.

A structured education always helps. You can argue against it on the basis of it sending you into debts, but that argument only applies to certain nations and can be worked against or avoided by different means like scholarships or part time jobs or inheritance.
Another argument would be that the quality of the education is low and the content is shit. But that only applies to specific institutions and can be avoided by actually researching where a good place for study is.
You don't "need" the education, but trying to reinvent the wheel is just stupid when the shit you will come up with on your own is stuff people have already done or thought of. Better to learn where a given tradition is right now and the history leading up to it so you can try and continue and push it forward rather than endlessly walking in circles generation to generation.

Some arts is good. Taking philosophy made me Conservative. Some people can read philosophy on their own and really grasp what's going on if they're brilliant. But you mostly have to engage with other people to get the most out of it.

Currently studying Ancient Philosophy. Plato and Aristotle are pretty great. Sure their science is wrong, but that's not why I read and teach them. Also, Ancient Greek language radically changes how you understand being and time.
I wanted to learn Greek but did a couple years of Latin instead. I still suck at it, but it's impressive how the linguistic differences force your brain to think differently. I would encourage everyone to learn some other language, doesn't necessarily matter what
