You can clearly see a "spike" in crime but that is off of reported crime, the "dark figure of crime" is whatever happens but is not reported. Aggressive approaches to searching out and dealing with crime means discovering more of it hence the rates go up. Pic related shows a spike peaking in the early 80s and early 90s but a steady drop since. That decreased in the 80s may be due to the Carter administration's attitude to leniency on crime while Reagan would institution harsher policies.
It's not hard to see why, if there's a crackdown on burglary in your neighborhood you're not going to try and commit that crime are you? Of course not unless you're dumb cause you're more likely to get caught. This is called deterrence.

Then again crack was invented in the 1980s and coupled with “white flight” the major cities saw a huge spike in crimes during that time so crime rates may just be “correcting” for that oddity. I’m not saying that niggers are not a problem, but the cocaine and heroin comes from overseas mostly from Mexico and i for one would like to see the wall plus a 2nd Mexican American war to address these issues. Prison is costly, and tends to perpetuate itself like all government bureaucracy.

There are still those neighborhoods in cities like Baltimore, Detroit, LA and Chicago. Aggressive policing really did work in NYC, but it was only possible because money was returning to the city so in many ways, the money itself could have helped drive crime down (less unemployment, less blight, social programs and welfare etc) but obviously with such an explosion in crime tough laws were needed. It may be time to look into reforming them but like I said the drug and by extension organized crime
