Can you speak foreign languages to navigate foreign countries? Can you fire a weapon accurately enough to save your life? Can you win over an opponent in an argument? Can you run a long distance? Can you defend yourself in a fist fight? Can you tie a rope? Can you give a girl the night of her life? Can you enforce a budget to save money? Can you make a public speech? Can you negotiate a business deal? Can you swim long distance?
A wholesome man can do every one of these things. When the time comes, a wholesome man is prepared to handle almost any task on the fly to win the situation. Whether it's saving your own life, saving the lives of others, acting in emergency situations, or building yourself into a more powerful person, a man needs skills so he can act in times of need. When those times come, and a man does not have the skills necessary, there is great shame and embarrassment, or even failure, at the expense of himself or others.
Good fathers teach these skills. When we don't have good fathers, we must teach ourselves.
