Postering has a somewhat tangible effect but it's an entirely different experience to SEE the user. There will be higher security/campus police presence as well as general nightlife on these nights due to anticipated vandalism and retards drinking themselves into comas. I think it would be better to hit a few days before or after Halloween.
I will be definitely be participating as there are many universities near me. One is a particularly well known lefty Ivy-League school. I am just suggesting that if you plan on doing this, maybe do it a few days earlier/later if you are scared of getting caught.

We did it on the 31st last year and we were successful, but if you feel more comfortable putting up the posters a couple days later then go ahead. But we recommend you stick to the plan. If you can, you could try putting up the flyers really early in the morning (Like 5 or 6 AM early) on Nov 1st.

I tend to be a bit more cautious, especially because after reading my University's "anti-bias" policy this seems like something I could possibly be asked to leave for.
3:30-5:00 AM seems like it would be the best time. After the bar crowd but before the early risers. I'll try for Nov 1st.
