This has prompted their leader, Jimmie Åkesson, to open up to his resignation. Experts believe the obvious replacement candidate is the SD veteran Paula Bieler from the more progressive wing of the party, which would further distance the party from its neo-nazi roots and hardline nationalist rhetoric.
This means Sweden is set to get its first Jewish leader of a political party in the Riksdag. If SD continues to grow, Sweden may also have its first Jewish prime minister after the 2022 election.

I think he might leave politics if SD gets influence, explicitly as a bargaining chip, but probably just an 'excuse' to retire from politics or get a more passive position to have less responsibility on his shoulders, since it has taken a toll on his mental well-being.
