I've been there a few times and my opinion is that Mexicans are better all around than Canadians but Mexicans are more likely to kill you for a dollar so that leaves a pretty dark stain on relations. We should accept maybe a few hundred thousand immigrants per year for now, but focus on working with Mexican authorities to fight cartel violence, reducing one of the factors that drives people into the US.

If there are some amazing mexican doctors or scientists who want to come here -- great. We don't need droves of farm laborers and construction workers though who drive down wages for the rest of the country.

I grew up in the upper midwest. I've seen ag and construction wages tank there as illegals moved their way up the country from the southwest. The grocery stores are filled with Mexican food now. It's crazy. I'm in California now, and you have no fucking idea how bad it is (or maybe you do, if you're here too).

All that being said, they are Catholic however, and they do share a common thread of Western values with us. It's not like, say, any Asian country. I think there's hope for them in that regard.... they just need to fix their shit at home and not flood us.
