Notice how at the end of Band of Brothers, The Pacific and Saving Private Ryan (we got shown this in school when we were 12 yos as part of the curriculum) there's a formula. Characters getting war weary and 'losing it' then some 'deep and meaningful' thing about the brotherhood of war then without fail - the vibe of the final episode or last part of SPR puts this golden glow over everything. In SPR it ends with "we did it we repulsed the attack guys" and wabisabi patriotic trumpets. Band of Brothers it suddenly goes all sunny and they're enjoying the spoils of war. The Pacific it goes from gritty cinema verite to a bright gold hue and the obligatory patriotic trumpets right at the point where the characters learn of the a-bomb frying a few hundred thou of civilians and hoorahing about it. There's a scene where it all wraps up in the pacific where this guy who got spurned by his teenage crush across the road sees her being courted by an officer and he interjects and wins her over because he partook in the human sacrifice event and the officer who didn't gets NO PUSSY.

For a war on such a massive scale they went to great lengths to destroy photos of gore. Like those first wave Omaha Beach negatives that supposedly got destroyed by the water except for the non-violent ones.
