America's strength mainly lies in its geography. It is extremely difficult to invade by sea because of the Atlantic and Pacific oceans keeping any enemies far away (compare that to the distance between Dover and Calais). It's almost more difficult to invade by land, because Mexico and Canada are large friendly countries, and in order to enter the US you would have to pass through either a desert (if you go through Mexico) or featureless prairie (Canada).
The US also has a huge amount of agricultural land which would make it mostly self-sufficient if the rest of the world tried to isolate it. The enormous size of the US also means that there is both a lot of room to expand, and also makes occupying the country very impractical.
Just based on its geography alone the US is playing life on easy mode. The values that the people of the US hold - things like capitalism, liberty, etc. - also mean that the US has historically been very prosperous. To be born in the US is to be born into a very privileged position.

I would argue that would also apply to Canada, Australia, New Zealand, etc. even though those places are culturally closer to the UK, there was still a sense of adventure needed to be an early settler to those places
