I got an iPhone Xs by a chick last night. Had a 7 or an 8 before (?).
It’s watching and listening all the time, it keeps trying to get me to chat. It unlocks off facial recognition instead of tapping a number in.
During set up it asked if it could send everything I type to Apple to help with their ‘diction’ checking. I said no, because for oh I don’t know just some crazy reason I don’t trust this thing.

No, your mic isn't even located there. On newer iphone models you can't even access the mic from outside the phone. Also, that frame narrows just behind that grill to an opening smaller than the pinhead, so it won't press into the speaker at all. And those speakers are mostly empty plastic so even if you did stab one you'd likely miss anything meaningful
