I'm not a neuroscientist, but I got enough out of my Psych bachelor's to know how to read a paper The images you're talking about (presumably researchgate.net/publication/319885653_Brain_functional_connectivity_patterns_in_children_and_adolescents_with_gender_dysphoria_Sex-atypical_or_not, which got most publicity, but there are follow ups and precursors with the exact same methodology) are fMRI maps, which show activation. When a bit of the brain is being used, blood goes to it and it burns through glucose so it leaves a signal that a scanner can read. Those signals are mapped and projected onto a model brain. Activation is not the same as structure. Abnormal activation can very easily be developed by learning to use cognitive strategies that are abnormal. So what you have there is physiologically male brains activating in a pattern more similar to a female brain and vice versa. The only verified physiological differences are in one area, which were found during an autopsy-based study (which is a pain in the arse to organise and so rarely, if ever, done). There's a bit in your brain called the thalamus, it's like a little walnut that relays signals to-and-from the nervous system. Around that is a band of tissue called the ST. There's a bundle of axons at one extreme of the ST called the bed nucleus, the BNST. From autopsies, researches found SIMILARITIES in the volume of ONE CLASS of neuron in the BNST of trannies and their cis-equivalents. That's the extent of it.
