For all the Bulgarian Ultranationalists and all others interested in Balkan geopolitics on this thread:
Bulgaria in 1991 and the fall of Communism had a stable military service with a good army, a population of around 10 and a half million, and somewhat stable industry.
Today, Bulgaria has the highest emigration rate IN ALL OF EUROPE, and has, in a matter of some 25 years, dropped down to barely 7 million people. Keep in mind that there was no extreme economic downfall, no war, no genocide, no expulsion.
The Bulgarian army is currently non-existent, and have basically no weapons, only a few ships. They have been completely disarmed since joining NATO, and their mandatory military service has been abolished since.
Bulgarian industry, always barely existing, has now come to a point where it is nowhere. There is, today, no such thing as Bulgarian industry.
Bulgarian infrastructure. Bulgaria today, 2018. has only ONE ''highway'' that runs from Sofia to Burgas through the southern plain of Bulgaria that goes from somewhere after Sofia (Pasardzhik) to roughly around the outskirts of Burgas, as it is the best and flattest terrain to build a highway. The highway is COMPLETE ruin, as Bulgarian politicians invested EU money into it, but actually kept most of the money for themselves, and bought only the cheapest materials for construction of it. You can get your kidney stones knocked out for free, without surgery, if you take the highway from Sofia to Burgas and back.
Bulgarian mentality is another thing. If you have ever heard the term: ''The dog that barks does not bite.'' This sentence describes in absolute detail the mentality of the Bulgarian nation of today. Bulgarians today, who stayed in Bulgaria due to their Nationalism, which I admire, have a negative and chauvinistic outlook on the world around them, and their immediate neighbors. They want to kill and expell Romanians, Serbs, Greeks and take Macedonia.
