My point was that most of those issues can be pinned on the foolishness of minorities, which is true. Frivolous spending, poor eating/obesity/high healthcare costs come mostly from blacks and hispanics, and poor whites too, but not nearly as much. Horrendous voting patterns are pretty easily to be seen as coming from minorities too, which contributes as much to our issues as the other things, and the only thing that at least somewhat halts it are whites that wish to keep the good aspects of the American way.

3 years ago I was a NEET on the the verge of homelessness (getting kicked out of a house my dad owned and I stayed at rent free). I got a job as a janitor for a small manufacturing firm for $10 per hour. Took on more and more duties and the job evolved to maintenance/janitor and ended up at $18 per hour. Then I took that experience and got a better job as a maintenence man for a municipal facility making $30 per hour with great benifits and one of the seemingly mythical pension plans.

I also minored in math, which is even more of a meme, but I don't really see how databases are any less of one. The problem isn't lack of jobs, it's lack of entry level jobs, which don't exist in CS. If you're not hired through a feeder program, or if your internships don't pan out, you're completely screwed. It's a terrible situation all around, and it's even more depressing having to work 10 hours a night making slightly more than a McDonald's worker after all that drama unloading boxes off a semi. I graduated with a 3.4 gpa, but I didn't do any internships or networking because I believed the STEM meme would carry me like a complete idiot, and I guess I'm paying for that now.

I had a friend who finished a CS program at Devry or some other non-accredited school and he was hired at a giant company for $60k his senior year. He's was and is an awful programmer, but he's extremely sociable, and that's what got him the job. It seems like CS is no different than any other field, and I was naive thinking that it would be. I was a decent programmer, and got As in most of my classes, but I'm not a savant, so that on its own is pretty useless.

I'm currently trying to refresh my memory on old concepts and build a project to present to employers, hopefully someone will take pity on me. It's just really hard to stay motivated at this point.

If you game the system right, your employer will pay for you to take classes that make your resume more attractive to better employers.
