A spear is also not very good for home defense, unless your home is very spacious and not cluttered at all. For home defense one should opt for something more maneuverable like a hammer or, again, a monkey wrench.

I bought myself a spear head off of Amazon. It's nice because the base is hollow, so I only need the blade, I can attach it to any stick or pole. Something like this, except it's more of a spearhead, not the bowie design. People talk shit because it's a cold steel, but it's a nice 1.5 m short spear that would be great in survival or cqc defense.

if you're part of a full-bore using club, yes, if you be there for a while and jump through expensive hoops to get a certificate for a specific weapon and calibre. Police may also visit your home in order to declare if fit for holding weapons (need a steel floor-bolted gun locker, with ammo kept seperately). Then renew the licence after a while
