Today i read arguments for and against the concept of Rape Culture, with psychometric measures that are unbelievably terrible. No theoretical concept supporting it, extremely garbled and terrible terms "culture" which implies something wrong with our western identity and just creates fear for no reason. It should be "sexually hostile beliefs" all of the self report data falls into the 'beliefs and affirmations' category of literature which ovewhelmingly show general beliefs do not obtain in reality. If you believe in recycling you are just as likely as the canadian who does not, to use the government provided recycling bins for fear of penalties. Its only when beliefs are super specific that we see an influence. They also blame the white man, when its quite literally the white man alone who has these beliefs minimized. Blacks are demons compared to whites in their own papers.

Further none of the studies show a clear influential link to jury influence where these decisions matter.

Rape culture does not exist even if there is a connection to beliefs about women. All the studies that look at the construct show its mediated by hostility to women. The name is fucking terrible because it creates the opposite impression to what it actually obtains in the world. Different groups of people have different beliefs towards women, and its not uniform across culture but varies highly.

None of the tests use bayesian statistics or even report their confidence intervals which if you know anything about statistics, is disgusting.

The next thing is the papers show that if men have any bias, they are remarkably good at getting beyond it in jury deliberations (and we even know exactly when the bias ones do the hard deliberating). Yet the paper mentions none of this at all, it is like the author is blind to it.

Worst thing is, after all of this. They show the results for different interventions. From scholarly "a class taught with one lecture on rape law (what the law sees rape as)" to full blown psychological and govenrment thumbed brainwashing. Everything worked the same as the lecture style dry legal class but too longer. Except for ONE major intervention.

Confrontation. It was found that a confrontational approach to men in the subject significantly raised their "rape culture acceptance" beliefs. If they stayed quiet and gently followed the science, the white man would have slept, maybe even enjoyed the change as women show respect and get the outcome of respect. But now? No we must forever beat this cancerous guilt so that it will never rear its ugly head again.
