Brain damage is more common in boxing than mma. After the brain is “jarred” in boxing you get a 10 count then continue without time to recover from the initial damage. In mma you get knockout your done maybe with a few more shots when you’re out but less traumatizing to the brain. Also, less monkeys in mma compared to other combat sports.

Boxing has been around since time immemorial because it actually works in reality and more importantly, it's entertaining, thus more revenue. You know damn well there are guys that purposely lay on the mat until the ref stands them up. This isn't a problem in Pride because soccer kicks are allowed, rendering bjj useless in most scenarios. Also, boxing gloves were implemented so fighters would aim for the head more, causing more knockouts. That's why there's more brain damage and sometimes death in the ring. So the user is right. Read up on history before spewing random shit.

MMA is actually safer than Boxing for CTE/Brain damage.
They really should make the fighters take off the gloves like the UFC 1-9 back in the 90s. It is actually a lot safer for the fighters; you hit someone in the skull with your fist a lot and you can expect to break your knuckles. Also, it would be a lot closer to a real fight.

TL;DR MMA is a great and fascinating sport as it is almost a complete form of fighting bringing in the arts of BJJ, wrestling and boxing, but they need to change the rules and some of the culture around it.

I like MMA grappling. I train Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and some wrestling. I'm not that good and I'm still a white belt at BJJ (three black tags) but I feel a helluva lot fitter and stronger after 5 months of training. I'm kinda worried about CTE so I stick to the grappling classes in the evenings after work.

Ive done Judo for 12 years and switched it up to Karate and Silat and im better than the majority of students there, within the first month, i beat everyone there in sparring.
