'Social aptitude' is not a metric from which to judge one to be an NPC. It is extremely difficult to interact with NPC's if you are aware that there is something off with them (even if you cant quite put your finger on what it is, yet) The reason for this is you are correctly assessing all interaction with them as being hollow, even depressingly so.
It is no easy feat to be aware of this problem, in any capacity, and be able to be socially successful. I got some anecdotes for ya... When I was a young lad I was always the 'odd one out' throughout all of grade school. It was not until my freshman year in high school that I changed this. You see, I was extremely smart growing up, got placed in gifted programs and was offered a free ride at a private academy for gifted students (my father, smartly, turned it down,, which is funny he turned it down because he didnt want me to be a dweeb and it is entirely lost upon him that had he sent me there I would have likely been brainwashed) Anyway, one of my greatest strengths has always been pattern recognition. Come Freshman year (14 years of age) I had started to piece together how these automatons think. And, in application of this newly formed wisdom I went from being 'the weird kid' to one of the most popular kids in a very large school (2,500 students per graduating class). My peers either tripped over themselves to be my friend or hated me because I shunned the regular 'popular crowd'. But as I started to put together more and more wisdom on this I also started to revert back to being socially awkward. This is because I started to realize just how hollow it all was, entirely devoid of substance. I could no longer participate in bullshit npc conversation unless it was specifically about something that I enjoyed. And then I realized that participating in those conversations tended to amount to me talking to myself about my own hobbies.

And, from there it was easy to come to the conclusion that I was wasting my time talking to people who didnt have all the lights on upstairs. In fact, I'd argue that once you make come to such a conclusion that it is sheer lunacy to continue to try to talk to empty containers.
Another good example is having a pet doggo. Say you get yourself a real awesome doggo, things a beautiful specimen of the perfect breed for you. As you are training it you may notice that in its as yet untrained form its behavior is dictated by a set of booleans. You can lead a dog to grass but you cant make it shit. And then as you train it, all you are doing is reconditioning it, reprogramming it, to overwrite the booleans that govern its untrained behavior. This was a bit of a blackpill for me because I always wanted a best friend tier doggo but as I trained my pupper I realized that it is only my best friend because I made it that way. And, it is only a small hop from there to come to the conclusion that my wife is waifu material for the same reasons, because I put in the time to mold her into a woman that I deem to be a good wife.
There is a version of the mythos that describes reality as God was lonely so he tried to create friends only to realize that no one would ever understand him the way that he had always hoped they would and is stuck with the truth that it was only ever a dream. As above, so below, right?
