Started reading a book called 'Blitzed' all about drugs and WW2, but particularly Germany and drugs (though I hope it pays some attention to the allies side of things too).
It opens with a description of the German
psycho-chemical industry, which was the greatest in the world. The international conventions on opium and other drugs limited their exports, but domestic consumption was still huge. I'll have to double check but I think Weimar Berlin consumed 94 tons of Heroin a year during the 1920s.
