Depends on your standards. If you go by intellectual measurements then the west is generally superior. If you go by say war time measurements, then the East is generally superior. Vietnam kicked the shit out of France and the U.S. and Afghanistan kicked the shit out of the U.S. and Russia. At least in terms of occupational effectiveness. So really it depends on the metric by which you consider superior.
