I got creative and pointed out that if the population is armed with 'assault rifles' and has been trained in their use, then the population becomes a militia, which means the government can reduce it's standing army which will drastically cut costs so the money could be used for 'better causes'.
Basically, if they let us have BIG GUNS, they don't need as much military spending and the government can instead spend it on dog blowjobs.

Honestly in Canada and I don't think I'd reccomend this anymore to Americans an SKS. It's gonna be cheap, learn to use iron sights. I was able to put holes in paper at 600 meters with my sks which is plenty long range. Ammo is probably the most cheap/available on the planet. Also Canada has the best accessory market for sks' on the planet.
