There had always been a stormfag contingent on Jow Forums that was bringing people over to the white nationalist perspective. But it wasn't really a big deal, and certainly had no coherent political movement behind it.

However, things started to change after the Trayvonn Martin riots. Tons of memes started being spread about black people, and racial ideas became edgy. It wasn't until the Mike Brown riots that things really ramped up. This coincided with The Fappening and Gamergate, which brought a massive horde of newfags to Jow Forums, millions of people were redpilled this way.

The Daily Shoah became a thing about this time, after stewing in Jow Forums memes these ex-libertarians started their fashy podcast. The reason they are relevant isn't because they have such a large audience, but because they have a rather elite audience. Their podcast has fingers that reached those in positions of influence, eventually spreading the "alt-right" intellectual perspective to types such as Steve Bannon, Tucker Carlsen, Anne Coulter and innumerable others working behind the scenes in politics.

This whole thing exploded all across the internet, and energized various activist groups on the ground. These activist groups nucleated around Richard Spencer, Mike Enoch of TRS, and Andrew Anglin of The Daily Stormer (which comes from the old white nationalist stock). They eventually held the Charlottesville rally in August of 2017.

After this period of time, the powers-that-be essentially became activated against the alt-right, and started a major crackdown all across the internet. Videos were suppressed, facebook pages purged, websites de-listed, and activist groups hounded by lawsuits. People also became disenchanted with the radical-right version of things.

However, the "alt-lite" has never stopped growing, and continues to grow larger than ever even until this very day. Millions upon millions of people are waking up to civic-nationalist ideas.
