Well, a child can be a wonderful thing, even if it's not your own. But yeah, you have a great risk that they are genetically or otherwise damaged. For example if the mother drank too much alcohol etc. Happened to someone I know. Adopted two children, both are now on the streets and unmanageable by their parents. Parents life shattered.

I was adopted from Russia by Americans. I've always known, and we're making efforts to go back and meet my birth parents. I am currently in medical school. I think you are reducing the act of child rearing to a purely selfish act, thinking that raising a child is so you can have a personal servant. I dont understand your disdain for the concept. Orphaned children are not a lost cause, I am a testament to that. I love, cherish, and deeply respect my family for everything they have given me. I have wondered why they chose to adopt, and I have always felt separate from them in some regard. But none of these things stop us from being a cohesive, happy family.

There's no logical reason why a "strong" family would choose to adopt their third child instead of having a third biological child. This makes no sense unless the mother is 50 and can't have children.

My half brother was adopted out (we share a mentally ill mother) and his family who adopted him shared a wonderful life with him. He is like their son. He was told about us when he was 17. So now we're like a 2nd family but he still considers himself their family. It's all around a beautiful thing and I'm so grateful to them.
