Because Islam doesn't give a fuck about historical preservation. Without even blinking, they tear down just about any archeological site, or old mosque if you will, and rebuild it despite its historical relevance. The picture you posted is likely a brand new mosque built in the last 50 years, probably over an older, less decadent one.

Western nations do not do this, which quite honestly is pretty ridiculous but all of these historical preservationists have stopped a lot of our landmarks from ever properly being renovated. They take extra precautions to an almost surgical level to preserve the "original" church or cathedral, which ends up costing more than it would just to tear it down and rebuild it.

You can thank the British for setting this trend. British tourists would travel the world and look at ruins and bask in its glory. They were equivalent to modern day urban explorers that explore abandoned buildings today.
The problem was, the community had to live with these ruins. They had to look at it day by day. Literally almost as bad as brutalism. It was depressing and demoralizing. Just as the British Empire wanted.

It's sad that basically every single church that was in my area has either been abandoned and is overgrown or has been sold out to build flats. Meanwhile the mosques are packed like today there was some fat line outside of one I walked past.
That observation alone shows the current difference between Christianity and Islam and the dedication of the followers.

Christianity isn't a bookish religion per se and the bible doesn't contain all of Christian knowledge. I know that this risks a protestant counter, but that's not what I want to get into. Consider that for us Christ is God's word come into the flesh and compare that with Mohammed receiving the text of the Quran dictated by an angel. Of course the literal book will be more important to them, that's what they received and they cannot deviate a single letter. It's a religion for a different type of man.
Good luck on your search. I can recommend St. Augustine's Confessions, in which he describes his path to the faith. The many invocations of God can seem intimidating and off putting at first but beyond it is described a very human and relatable experience.

I have 100% belief in a higher power but I'm internally conflicted about my purpose on this earth. Why am I here? Am I supposed to be doing something that I haven't realised yet?
I share a flat with a Muslim guy and and an eastern Euro non practising Christian though he's very knowledgeable and we have these deep discussions (all friendly discussion) about faith and the ultimate purpose. Religion teaches you about a day of reckoning and that you should be preparing yourself for it. I'm still at a loss regarding all of that because I can't quite get my head around this kind of spiritual side of things since it's all new to me. I've given up alcohol and smoking as I don't believe God would want me to ruin my body like that. I approach every day with a new, attempted spiritual outlook. My main two options are pretty much Islam and Christianity. I'm not a descendant of the 12 tribes of Israel and I'm not an Israelite so I wouldn't qualify for God's blessing according to the Talmud even if I convert to Judaism so I don't agree with that faith.
I've also realized I've developed this hostility towards modern culture and government based on the teachings I've read about for example Jesus and Muhammad. God has provided us and blessed us with the opportunity to praise him and to earn our way into his heaven yet we decide to have a culture of degeneracy and militarism when it goes directly against what God would want from his obedient followers. Maybe I'm becoming extremist and I guess this is how most Islamic converts think that end up joining Isis (I've spoken to my Muslim flatmate about that). My life has become so much more complicated after the search of faith but I'm enjoying it. There is a God and he's a just God.
