I would also recommend looking at Zechariah 6:1-8 and Revelation 6:1-8 side by side.

Zechariah establishes that what are known popularly as "The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse" are spirits from heaven and discusses their direction of activity in relation to Israel.

Revelation speaks of what those spirits entail.

The white horse for example is said to go to the west in Zechariah, in Revelation it is going forth conquering and to conquer, the entirety of Europe and the entire western hemisphere were conquered by Christians.

I do not favor any particular translation beyond that I was raised with the King James and usually use the NIV for speaking to people because it is more understanable, for that particular verse it was appropriate for showing what it means.

I do like Young's Literal Translation, I think having multiple translations is useful when a verse does not make sense. There is an example in 2 Samuel chapter 8 where it talks about David measuring Moabites they beat in a war, in the King James version it reads as such:
