The North European plain is like a cone the starts in north Germany and spreads outwards into the eurasian steppe. Tis wide, flat front always favours attackers over defenders. The Nazis exploited this advantage during operation Barbarossa, encircling entire armies on the flat plains. The Russian federation has no natural barriers, this is also true in it's western, southern and eastern flanks. If the rest of the world decide to drive to Moscow the only thing russia can do is throw bodies at the invaders until they leave. However this time Europe has more bodies to throw back, so that strategy will fail.
What Russia needs to do if it ever wants to win a land war again is to anchor itself to geographic barriers outside it's core like the Caucuses and the Carpathian mountains and create a huge buffer zone in eastern europe. This will keep the distance between moscow and western Europe as long as possible, and hopefully european logistics break down over the vast distances, like what happened to Hitler and Napoleon. Pretty much all of modern Russian history is about holding onto to these geographic defences so they can focus their manpower on the Northern European Plain, where their sheer numbers and hostile climate will cause the attackers to break down and retreat.
Pretty much everything than could go wrong for Russia did go wrong because now Russia has none of these defences. In a war with Europe they are fucked. They have no easily defend-able rivers or mountains and the Eastern European buffer states will be on the side of the attackers. The distance to Moscow has never been shorter and the European armies will surround and destroy any resistance before driving to moscow. They have lost all their advantages that worked in the past against attack
Their only chance against a united europe is going nuclear, which would mean retaliation from the US and then both sides lose.
