I agree, the whole system is dumb, lets do away with tipping and pay a simple and fair rate for the job, as compared to other industries with similar education requirements, levels of danger, difficulty etc.
I'd put waiting tables at an average family level restaurant at maybe somewhat above stocking shelves in a grocery store, say 30% more demanding on an individual to perform at an acceptable level.
So surely they'll be happy to not get tips, and instead earn USD10$ an hour, right? It's not like they're actually taking home significantly more than that difference in tips by shaming their customers into paying their wages instead of Mr.Goldbergstein, restaurant owner, right?

fun fact, servers make an absolute killing from tips to the point where they would actually be making a fuck ton less money if they just got regular wage instead like they always cry about wanting (but secretly don't actually want), i use to wait tables when i was in college and i could make 300+ dollars a night easy and more on weekends, as a matter of fact the first job i got in my field when i graduated initially pay less money then i was making waiting tables before, also waiting tables is easy as fuck despite what servers want you to believe, and they are just trying to guilt you into giving them bigger tips that you didn't even really deserve (i was guilty of doing this myself)

Some places have cook tips, or I have seen places that have like a 25$ item on the menu that is to buy a round for the cook staff after their shift. All the places I have cooked I just make pretty decent hourly, but the servers always walk away with more than any of us cooks.

I know man. In Greece tipping is also a thing. But the amound depends on your personal mood and it is usually round ups or overhead from everyone putting money. Im my country we have a large tipping culture. I make about 100$-150$ in a 4-5 hour shift in San Diego. My brother in San Francisco was making around 200$-300$ a night, some people make even more.
