I wouldn't say Poland is "poor" - but I would say it is developing and is quite healthy at that. I included the PPP adjusted GDP numbers, but either way, look at what has been done since the collapse of the USSR/Warsaw Pact in 1989 and the free markets came in.
It's amazing, frankly. Nearly triple the GDP-PPP in less than 30 years. 5%+ sustained annual growth rates.
Poland still benefits from the cheaper labor costs than much of EU, but it's definitely starting to tip the other way now where expenses, contributions, and ever-heavier regulations are outweighing the "free trade" benefits, and slap on top of that weird immigration policies and totally uneven costs of labor etc. This is the problem with the EU in general, however.
