>2nd round polls: BOLSONARO 61% X HADDAD 39% (Paraná Pesquisas) Bolsonaro vs. Haddad run-off will happen in October 28th.
-- BACKGROUND
Jair Bolsonaro is the front-runner in Brazil's presidential election. He is a conservative Christian, pro-gun, a former army captain, and the only candidate with no corruption charges against him. He's looking to modernise the lethargic Brazilian economy with the aid of UChicago economist Paulo Guedes. He wants to align Brazil's foreign policy with Western nationalist governments against the influence of China, Eurasianism and regional socialism (Venezuela and Cuba). He has a hard stance on crime and supports increasing the power of police forces and the army to tackle Brazil's drug and violence problems. Under heavy fire from the media and academia, with an extremely restricted campaign budget, and having survived an assassination attempt, Bolsonaro's presidential run is nothing short of extraordinary.
JB's antagonist in the presidential race is Fernando Haddad, a sociologist, former minister of education under Lula and former mayor of São Paulo. He's running for the left-wing Labour Party (PT) under the guidance of former president Lula, who is currently in prison after being convicted for corruption and money laundering. PT had been the ruling party in Brazil for 13 years, but is facing high rejection in the polls after a police investigation uncovered the largest known corruption scheme in Brazilian history, which PT architected.

There are roughly 32k deaths a year in the U.S from guns.
60% Suicides 3% Accidental 4% Justified 33% Homicides 80% of the homicides are gang related That 1,712 in a society of 320 million.
Chance of death by gun = 0.00010256410256%
Of the 32,000~ deaths, 232 were by rifle of any kind.
If we extrapolate the percentage of AR-15s among ALL RIFLES, the AR would have caused 36 deaths per YEAR.
Opiods kill 115 people a day in U.S.

Yeah but here's the thing; Andrade plans has three things that should worry woman:
1) letting go criminals that "only" commited petty offenses. What does that means? More loopholes for lawyers. Sexual assault might be a petty offense, and who knows maybe even rape. 2) demilitarization of the police, meaning criminals that already dont fear the police will start to actively mock the guys in blue. They wont fear anything, much less a girl. 3) legitmize drugs. Which drugs? We dont know but what do we know is that with a easier acess to drugs drugging someone becomes far easier too "Boa Noite Cinderela" type of situations might happen more often
So in a tldr summary: there are woman supporting a candidate that promises to turn a country that already preys on them even more unsafe, by giving criminals more ways of escaping the law, less authority appeal and easier drug acess, yet Bolsonaro, the guy that wants to punish the very criminals that prey on woman harder than any president has punished before, is the bad guy and the machista.

>FBI: More People Killed with Hammers, Clubs than with Rifles of Every Kind
>Crime statistics from the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) show that more people were killed with hammers and clubs than with rifles of every kind in 2017.
>According to the Uniform Crime Report, 467 people were killed with “blunt objects (hammers, clubs, etc.),” while 403 were killed were rifles.
>The FBI report also reveals that 692 people were killed with “personal weapons” like “hands, fists, feet, etc..” and that is higher than the number of people killed with rifles and shotguns combined.
(fim)

My father, who is silent generation but kinda like a boomer, just emailed me this (he's an ex-pat living in Piruibe) "Everyone we know has voted, and will, for Bolsonaro. This includes working class members such as our domestic employee and odd job guy. In general people are fed up with the fact that socialist policies of the PT (Partido Socialista) are not working. Some may well be looking at Venezuela but I don’t know. Some of Bolsonaro’s comments are offensive to me as a libertarian, but if he concentrates on making the country more business-friendly, such as improving on PT’s labor laws, and reduces the more onerous taxes, the economy will respond. In terms of human rights or the perception thereof, he will have to deal with the NEastern States that are poor, more crime-ridden, and still solidly PT. I expect Sao Paulo and the states further south will respond positively and continue to attract labor from the NE as they have on and off for the past 80+ years. But the speed of recovery will depend on foreign investment and on commodity prices for metals and various agricultural products in whose markets the country dominates. -P"
