Compare that to life in 2018 and instead of flying mounts use social media and cell phones.. the way our societies social interactions parallel is eerily similar to the way retail WoW has become after the aforementioned changes in vanilla, and both have been done with short term gratification in mind.

Burning Crusade was great, though. it was just vanilla WoW in space. It started going downhill with arenas honestly. It was easy as fuck to get 2k rating but it changed the entire PvP system to the point where PvP being an enjoyable get away from raiding became a chore that everybody took way too seriously.

Arena was fun until it became convoluted with petty rules.
I remember coming in at the end of BC Season 2, after my first account was perm banned. (let a friend in europe use my acct)
I was able to make Gladiator in 50 games, no losses, 4 hours total. Now there are rules that mandate you play a minimum of x games and you have to be active throughout the entire season to qualify.
Like, new games are more fun now because they haven't been around long enough for salty fucks to ruin the game experience. WoW has sadly and unfortunately been around too long and the fun has been drained from it.
I still play, but the community is absolute shit. I liked it better when everyone was an elitist asshole, because at least I could actually BE superior than them. Now it's full of lefty trash millenial faggots that go PC on you and call you toxic, get you perma muted and exploit the NPC ran report system.

Yeah this is life in general. Nothing significant about an mmo, it's just your unique nostalgia. There are people around to tell you life was better before TVs and computers and all changes society implemented.
It's similar because everyonr looks back with rose tinted glasses at their past. I played vanilla, bc, skipped a lot and then the last 2 expansions, it's a better game by leaps and bounds now, no doubt about it, i wouldn't go back, I won't be playing vanilla when they rerelease it, it'll be shit. It was about the friends I played with and the discovery and fun, not the objective qualities /features of the game itself.
Cata started out on a really strong foot and had challenging content. Worgen are gay as fuck though and I hated that one underwater zone. otherwise what was so bad about Cata? I don't care what anyone says MoP was the best until SoO

Pandering to wide audiences and dumbing down the game killed all rpg element so now you are left with a this action type game that actively prevents you from building a community inside in the name of convenience
