Why is lottery allowed in a Capitalistic society?

It's literally socialism.

Dont play the lottery then.

It's a choice to play, communism/socialism taking over a country ruins it for everyone.

Because it's fake. No one really wins.

>they were talking about the Lottery. Winston looked back when he had gone thirty metres. They were still arguing, with vivid, passionate faces. The Lottery, with its weekly pay-out of enormous prizes, was the one public event to which the proles paid serious attention. It was probable that there were some millions of proles for whom the Lottery was the principal if not the only reason for remaining alive. It was their delight, their folly, their anodyne, their intellectual stimulant. Where the Lottery was concerned, even people who could barely read and write seemed capable of intricate calculations and staggering feats of memory. There was a whole tribe of men who made a living simply by selling systems, forecasts, and lucky amulets. Winston had nothing to do with the running of the Lottery, which was managed by the Ministry of Plenty, but he was aware (indeed everyone in the party was aware) that the prizes were largely imaginary. Only small sums were actually paid out, the winners of the big prizes being non-existent persons. In the absence of any real inter-communication between one part of Oceania and another, this was not difficult to arrange

Are casinos socialism?

Isn't this some story? I read in in hs and it really put the value of human life into perspective.

>No one really wins
Can you just imagine? It is both totally plausible and unbelievable at the same time. I really think that such a revelation, if it were true, would shatter the minds of millions of people.

didn't they used to hold lotteries during the revolutionary war to purchase weapons?

1984

It's just gambling

Spoiler: Winston gets shot in the head at the end

But he died loving BB. BB is Love, BB is Life.

no he did not stop spreading lies!

For some native tribes, yes

It taxes stupidity. And often ruins the winners life which is hilarious

it is gambling on a scale unprecedented in human history

think of it...desperate people all contributed over a billion dollars that they worked some shitty job to earn to make this jackpot

To me this jackpot has nothing but sinister overtones. Healthy cultures do not do this. Gambling, alcohol, drugs, porn, and war profiteering...we are a vice economy.

From gambling to the addiction crisis, all the signs of a population desperate for a glimmer of hope or the escape of numbness are there.

Have you ever known anyone who won? Have you ever known anyone who knew anyone who won? Have you ever known anyone who knew anyone who knew anyone who won? The most anyone I have heard of personally ever won was about $350. Not even worth the price of the tickets they had bought over the years.

If the lottery was real surely someone here or in our workplaces or our schools would know SOMEONE who had won big at some point in time.

>And often ruins the winners life which is hilarious
only because whats you's means i gots ta pay taxes n sheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeit

Winston the gorilla from Overwatch?

If you don't like it, don't participate faggot. Land of the free.

The lottery is a scam

How is it socialism if only a few people can reap the "benefits" of the poor (who primarily fund lotteries)?

Can attest to knowing someone who won a million. Which in the grand scheme of things is like winning a dollar. I wonder if the ones who win 500 million are real now...

Government funds pay for the lottery system and pay the salaries of the people involved. Taxes are being taken from all of us to fund the lottery, you sub-moronic brainlet negroid.

I can promise you if I won $1.6B it would not ruin my life

One of my neighbors did, a jackpot of several million. He paid off his house and bought one for each of his two kids. Now hes living off the interest in his savings accounts. I mean, I get the appeal that it's all full of shit but since I actually know someone who did I cant vouch for it 100% of the way. Also you can find reports of former winners. Read: most have terrible lives afterwards.

NO, ITS A SCAM. AND THATS CAPITALISM AT ITS BEST.

I did work with someone who won $30,000 back in the day. Sue was a young black woman who blew it all in less than a week at her $15/h job. I think it was a scratch-off.

>huge amounts of resources go to someone usually entirely undeserving of them and the majority of the time, the resources are squandered by their lack of foresight and character, often leaving them worse off than before they were given resources for nothing

Whelp, can't argue with that.

>tfw. CIA glowniggers

When I was in college I worked with a lady who won 550k. She was the most frugal bitch ever too. She took home literally all our leftovers so she didn't have to buy food. The only nice thing she had was a brand new Hummer (back when they were nice)

lottery is a tax on people who are bad at math.

I am literally ok with this, as long as government is the one running it.

> How is it socialism if only a few people can reap the "benefits" of the poor (who primarily fund lotteries)?

Because if you rig it to have predestined winners, it's undisguisable.

> How is it socialism if only a few people can reap the "benefits" of the poor (who primarily fund lotteries)?

Also know a degenerate who won $30k on a scratch off. Literally gone in less than a month.

I definitely don't glow.

>have you ever known anyone who...
>yeah actually my neighbor
>la la la la la la
top lmao

>choose to buy ticket
>socialism
Fucking retard. And it’s not a tax either. Key word being “choose”.

im already winston

>tax
>choose to buy
Hurr durr

No it's not "literally socialism!!1" you gigantic dumb fuck, it's gambling and it's not forced on you.

are you saying sales tax is not a tax? because you are wrong.

Sure, it is not an income tax and therefore does not imply that the government owns you, but sale taxes work pretty well.

Tax coke, you are putting a tax on fat people. lottery, tax on stupid people, etc etc

>259 million to 1 odds to win
>1600 million dollar jackpot

Seems like you’re the one that’s bad at math.

Because capitalism allows free people to buy stuff.

It's to tax the poor who dont pay taxes.

If you say so, Jamal.

The lottery is not a tax at all, because no one is forced to participate. You can stay out of it and keep your money. It’s funny how liberals complain about the lottery being a tax, but ACTUAL taxes are considered to be so great.

I have 20$ on the current drawing.

They increased the odds to 1-305 million to 1 odds by the way. And you can't look at that 1.6B. In reality you will get only 800M and that is before taxes.

Still, no reason not to buy mega millions once it goes over 600m or so

>tax the poor
as I said, I agree and I am ok with this

600/305

Okay, so 2/1 instead of 4/1

how much does each additional ticket that you purchase improve your odds of winning?

For all intents and purposes isn't one ticket virtually the same odds as purchasing 10?

Frugal but buys a Hummer, infamous gas guzzler. Not very smart is she.

It's a psuedo-tax.

increases odds of winning by almost nothing, but look at it this way.

A ticket costs 2$. when the Mega millions prize is 600Million you are paying 1$ for the chance to win 300Million with 1-300M odds.

That means that the ticket is fairly priced when the pot goes that high.

if the pot is lower, you are buying 2$ tickets worth less than 2$ in odds. if the pot is higher you are buying 2$ tickets worth more than 2$ in odds.

In that case, everything is a tax. NIKE is a tax on blacks.

Oh shit, I forgot the tickets are 2 dollars now. I haven’t played the shit in so long. Damn, but even after taxes it’s still a pretty good deal.

It’s socialism for the stupid and poor who want to participate in it. I don’t see anything wrong with it. It’s not forced socialism and if you aren’t retarded you just ignore it.

you are missing the point. Only cash that goes to government is a tax

this.

Odds of winning are 1 in 302,575,350. America's population is 325,000,000. Pretty sure every American, illegal and Canadian at the border has played 1 ticket or more. Which according to odds should have delivered at least 1 or 2 winners.

>how much does each additional ticket improve your odds of winning

Hey, if you want someone to multiply for you, find a fifth grader. That shit's 2 hard 4 me.

>it's socialism

Attached: 1524340124715.jpg (500x500, 54K)

you are also forgetting that there is a chance for multiple winners.

In general there have been 3 mega milllion pots that are worth putting money on, ever.

this is one of them

It’s not really a tax though, it’s a “vig”. You choose to play, and pay the bookie whatever the vig is. You already know the vig is almost 50%. So is it worth it? Only the player can decide.

It's just a trick to catch time travelers.

this.

Attached: 1536884669378.png (736x975, 259K)

are you suggesting she buy a prius instead?

I don't buy a ticket unless it goes over 600 million.

I am going to buy mega million tickets. My state forces you to do a press conference if you win so I am going to wear my MAGA hat and when the CNN bitch asks me what I plan on doing with my 600 million I will say I will spend my entire life using this money to destroy the corrupt kike infested media.

yes, but when the vig goes to government. It is a tax.

try setting up your own lottery and you will understand what I mean

I see people bringing up the whole taxed thing but not much about the fact that there are many US states that force the winner to go public and reveal their identity to show that the lottery isn't fixed and all that. Except when people know now about the winner, they're gonna get a lot of trouble out of that.

If its only for the tribe, its nationalism.

I have bought tickets already, but I am still rooting for you

If you win in Illinois don't they just keep the money and tell you to fuck off?

A sheboon worked at a gas station and won 25k on a scratcher. She quit her job like she was millionaire.

You fucking Jow Forumstards will definitely know I won if I do

No it’s not. It’s a tax. A tax on people who are poor at math. Perfectly reasonable in a capitalist economy.

Anyone else hate it when the person who sells you the ticket says, good luck?

Whoever wins the first 1 billion dollar jackpot will unfortunately also be famous at the same time. So you're gonna have to spend your first million on security alone.

I hope if I don't win you win. Good luck user.

Not necessarily. The lottery ticket machines spit out random numbers without regard to what numbers have already been issued for that lottery drawing, so multiple multiple people can end up with the same numbers on their tickets. It's how sometimes there are multiple winners and they have to split the prize.

It’s illegal for you to make one. It’s communism, means of production.

You aren’t allowed to make your own lottery so it’s a coerced choice.

It’s clerk code for “remember who sold you the ticket when you win”

based

math geniuses are usually depressed people because they can pretty much calculate the odds of ever being rich and realize it's never gonna happen and they are gonna be debt slaves for all of their lives cos the system is rigged. Even if you somehow manage to save a million bucks as soon as you hit 60 you gonna have more medical bills that vacuum your wealth until your 80 and broke.

$2 is literally nothing. I don’t understand why people get so frustrated when people play the lottery.
You don’t get rich saving $2 a week

>I read it in a fiction book so its true

but i bought my winning ticket from a machine

No, it's a stupid people tax. Nothing more.

and btw I don't usually play, but since its so high now I might as well throw 5$ in the pot for the chance, I could finance the 4th reich with that kinda money

Tfw 23 years old and never bought a scratch off/lottery ticket, bought alcohol, smoked anything or voted :( am I even alive bois?

It's a good thing that statistically that won't happen.

>getting paid for doing literally no work is socialism

>I'm a faggot who is so poor he pays a voluntary tax in a one in 300 million chance of recouping his investment.

I sometimes wonder if quick picks actually give you the worst numbers to win. I hand pick all of my lottery numbers.

Still better than betting on the Knicks

>thinking that i actually play the lottery

not for the 1 dude that wins. kek

I will be the sole winner.

still better investment than the interest you get from your bank account.
