The other thing is that almost everything you can learn in college you can also learn via the internet or your local library. If you need to go to college to get a degree because all the jobs in your industry require them, then you can just get them online via the university's distance learning program (often for cheaper prices).

That’s not necessarily true. No one took them seriously for years because of that line of thinking, everyone thought it would be a fad that went away once they tried to find a job. What ended up happening is that many jobs/positions were created for them that didn’t exist before. Diversity officers, social organizers, etc... Nonprofits will scoops them up. I don’t doubt we’ll see SJW law firms opening up soon with how it’s going.

Sure, if you're okay with a gradual approach. If you want to fix it in the next few years, the nuclear option is to remove government accreditation. End the Dept. of Education's support for or recognition of accreditation control agencies, end NCLB, end the 1965 Higher Education Act, and remove or limit any other federal or state program which gives official credence of any sort to any institution of education's diploma or degree, including public schools.
The hurdle to jump is that higher education has been made into a gatekeeping institution. In order to get a high-end job, you MUST pass through one of these places, and these places all have the same problems. Continued government support will always grant them the prestige they need to remain gatekeepers, and even talking about them in a manner where we suggest they must be changed is tacitly accepting them as central to the path to adulthood. And why change when your model is working?
The gradual approach is to try to change the nature of the gate and who keeps it, the effective answer is to open more gates. By removing an official "seal of approval" from these institutions, we can open up the idea that people from outside this system might be worth employing too. If accreditation becomes less reliable; if it becomes a less compelling defense for "why the fuck did you hire that guy?!"; for many companies there will be a natural desire to build their own testing programs to ensure potential new hires can actually do the work. This would create a more functionally rigorous standard testing and an opportunity to learn your shit outside of colleges; if you can beat the test you can still get hired. Colleges would still exist, but without the rent-seeking nature of the modern college undergrad degree they would be forced to shape up their programs to actual effectiveness or fuck off to bankruptcy.
