Thats how the tested model functioned here. UBI up to a certain earning treshold. Idea was that it would replace our current complex as fuck system that discourages people from starting their own companies or working very small odd jobs, because they would risk losing the welfare benefits.
So you get the welfare benefit you get right now, except with no strings attached, so theres no fear of not being able to pay your rent if you start your own business and it doesn't go too well for the first few weeks.

well it actually will work eventually, or should work. but it wont be because it was rebranded or rethought out in a new way, itll just be because there will be enough robots to make it viable.
How so? The benefit amount would be the same, where you can pay your rent, buy simple food but can't afford anything else. Right now if you do any odd jobs with payment that exceeds 200 euros, you lose all your benefits so its not financially feasible to actually do them, its better for the poor to be lazy instead.
With the UBI model doing any and all kinds of jobs is only beneficial because its extra money on top of the welfare (up to 2000 euros a month which is between poor to middle-income level of earning). The system works better in modern job market where permanent positions are nonexistent and all jobs are part-time only. So in that sense if the job market won't change back to what it used to be, then UBI is going to be inevitable.

i can only speak for US culture, but people already spend more than they earn in that income bracket. i personally feel like adding more money most people would just keep to that trend instead of making changes to elevate themselves out of that bracket. people would be as poor as they are now, just with more stuff.

UBI makes sense if you have a situation where AI takes over most jobs. Until then, it's going to result in people getting paid for nothing and then asking for more once they waste it.
i don't see it as a bad thing. but i do not see why money should be put into a program like that when it is just a half assed bandaid on a serious wound. once you give people that program good luck taking it away again. the culture needs to change throwing money at people won't make a meaningful impact

What we should do instead is introduce a subsidy for mothers. Roughly, that is around $30,000 for 1 child and another 30K for a second child. After that, no more money for further children.
Now, depending on how the child is doing in school, whether they get in trouble with the law, the pay will either go up or down. This will be paid for by completely gutting the welfare state. All "child-support" money will be thrown into the pot. Furthermore, married couples without children will not receive an altered tax bracket.
No more "child-support" and no more incentives for mothers to remain single (as, otherwise, some of their benefits would be taken away). This obviously does not solve ALL the problems, but it is a step forward, and redistributes wealth towards those who need it the most, and penalizes those who are irresponsible. It is more akin to a government job than welfare.
If you're going to have socialism (which we already do), it should do some good for the next generation.

The US has been pursuing an anti-inflation economic policy since the 1970's.
That's why we hear sometimes that Americans haven't had an increase in real wages since the 1970's.
But this was by design. It was a purposeful strategy to fight the inflation that plagued the economy BACK THEN.
This strategy became outdated during the economic crisis in 2008.
Now we have the opposite problem.
While asset prices are inflated, the wages have been deflated.
Economic stagnation and anemic growth are the result.
A UBI is one way to help fix it.
A better way would be a debt jubilee.

Long-term jobs disappearing is a global problem so it is a wound you cannot really fix on a country-level. Globalisation and automatisation both are eating away our jobs. UBI (or the model we tested anyway) is not band-aid but an update on older welfare system which now costs more money and is less efficient because it actively discourages people from being proactive and creating themselves a job if theres no other ones available.
Finland is a bureucratic hell, for example Kickstarter is illegal here thanks to our crowdfunding laws and Patreon is on the grey area. Starting a small company is incredibly hard and instantly a huge risk, UBI would simply remove much of that bureaucracy away from the welfare system we already have, promoting proactivity and ultimately costing less tax-payer money because less bureaucracy involved.
This is the foundation of UBI. Also, the potential for corruption with this is astounding.
