About 20% of Americans have undiagnosed/untreated forms of mental illness. Lying to mentally ill people or reinforcing their malicious manifestations of insanity does not help them. The news services explicitly telling people why and how this cannot happen in America would diffuse a lot of the tension and divisiveness we see today.
