Nationalism might be bad but globalism is worse. It doesn’t have to be one extreme or the other. Being a “nationalist” in 2018 just means you don’t want your country completely invaded by migrants and all your labor being outsourced

people suffer more when nationalism is unapparent because tribalism will always take hold at some point and cause all those who aren't collectivised / tribalised / nationalised to suffer.

even globalism itself is nationalism at its core. because the belief is that in order to bring "balance" and peace to the world, the entire world has to be unified under one nation-state.

this peace will be a lie however, as this will mean that one centralised authority will be able to dictate to ALL on the earth how they should live their lives, and those who disagree will be made to suffer.

so you see, there is no way around suffering. no matter what you do people will always suffer. nationalism however is a buffer against the highest degree of suffering that comes from globalism / authoritarianism. sure. different nations have conflicts, but that's no different than individuals having disagreements and occasionally lashing out as a result. that's part and parcel of having individual relationships between different peoples with different beliefs.

but to exchange this natural dynamic for artifically enforced global-nationalism that is literally forced on the people is a recipe for disaster because it will force those with different opinions, beliefs and whatever else to live closer together whilst being simultaneously disconnected from each other (and for good reason), resulting in nothing but conflict between sub-groups and civil dissent in general.

globalism ushers in complete authoritarianism, because for it to last, it needs to stamp out individual liberty for the sake of "peace and security" because you can't have peace and security in such a melting pot with no unifying force. even within the US, this only lasted for a time, until minorities suddenly began to not be so "minoritised", as soon as this was the case, they began warring against the whites and demanding more and more.

If anyone wonders why Britain doesn't have much love for the EU - it's because the history of european governance is incompetence and failure, which they mistakenly feel is some universal "experiment" gone wrong, when it's actually just them being shit at everything.
Even now, France, Germany, Spain and Italy have still failed to maintain a country that doesn't implode or surrender in less than a century.

When Britain did Nationalism, it was so successful it was literally exported all over the world. Britain won wars when it was Nationalist. Britain's downfall and economic stalling correlates almost entirely with the abandonment of British glorificiation.

Nationalism works when the country that invented Liberal Democracy does it. It works when the country with the oldest educational institution and most enduring governmental system does it. The United States was founded on British ideals and used those very ideals to cast off British influence, then ended up ruling the world.

I don't want to suggest Continental Europe doesn't have some good stuff going for it, but it's record on governance is absolute fucking garbage no matter the ideology it uses.
