I supported Trump from his initial declaration to run for president, my wife and children helped campaign for him in the primaries. But here's where I have to draw the line. Americans are not, and have never been nationalists. Patriots yes, but nationalists no. The difference between patriotism and nationalism is that the patriot is proud of his country for what it does , and the nationalist is proud of his country no matter what it does. Winston Churchill once said nationalism was the last refuge of the scoundrel, and he was bang on the mark. Thus it is with deep remorse that I find myself voting for the Democrats in the upcoming midterms. Nationalism is the sure path to destruction, and sometimes, to be a patriot, we have to do things against the grain, against our natural instincts, even going so far as to vote a straight democrat ticket. And this is coming from a classic liberal, a true conservative.
