The people who came up with the electoral college system didn't do it to consolidate deep state control or whatever the fuck you believe it is. They were more intelligent and farsighted than you, and did not want certain states/cities with dense populations to rule over everybody forever. This would mean that if you didn't live in a population-dense area you would just be fucked, nobody would be looking out for your interests at all or capable of representing them on a federal level. They wanted those people to have a voice, instead of being drowned out by the mob rule of a couple states.

I know this is a bait thread, but I want to explain just how retarded people who want to get rid of the electoral college are. The United States isn't identical to other countries like Britain or France. The states in the union aren't just overgrown provinces. They are meant to operate largely as if they were sovereign entities, since, originally, they were. And in a union between these entities, each and every one needs to be represented in the federal government as best as possible. That's why our most powerful congressional legislature represents each state equally, and why the head of the executive branch is picked through the electoral college system. Of course, the need to represent the will of the American people overall must also be represented as best as possible. That's why our second legislature is based on population size, and why the electoral college doesn't give an equal number of votes to each state.

People who advocate for the abolition of the electoral college have no idea how our system is meant to operate and honestly shouldn't be allowed to vote.

The electoral college was designed as a compromise to entice smaller states to join the union. At the time for instance, my home state of Virginia was massive. Why would Rhode island or Delaware or Connecticut want to join into a union where Virginia could bully them a decide policy for the rest of the nation? For instance, what if Virginians used their massive political power to ban the import of cotton, and force northern states to buy cotton from VA? Each state or region in the union has it's own wants and needs. Kansas, or north Dakota and Florida dont have the same needs. But those people need a reason to not say fuck off we're going to be our own country. The electoral college was a deliberate handicap the big states imposed on themselves as a show of good will, that the collective mattered, and the little guy waant going to be bullied by the big states. It's so simple I can't believe people have trouble grasping this. We're one of the largest countries in the world, to have gotten and remained this large is a testament to the genius of our system. balkanization will be so easy if you start trying to fuck over your fellow citizen.

Even though I've moved multiple times I'm still a Pennsylvanian. I'd take my state and support its 12 million people over the 40 million spics in Cali any day.

The United States is like 50 different countries under one federal government. The Electoral College was designed specifically to keep large (and shitty) centers of population from imposing their will on rural areas. It's called freedom. Also, 250 years ago the folks who implemented this system were more intelligent than 98% of the modern populous. Not only were they more intelligent, they were also more decent and moral. We are blessed by God to be living under a system they created, while nations founded under shitliberalism have came and went. I think France is on its Fifth Republic right now and the Soviet Union only lasted 72 years.
