The numbers are eerily similar to 2008, and developing in almost the exact same fashion. The absolute first sign to look for is an increase in high value homes on the market, followed by McMansions.
It's a fairly basic concept. The people who own homes worth +$10 million are likely to be the first ones to receive advice from their financial planners that now is a good time to sell. And then it trickles down. A few months later, the people with $5 million homes catches on, and then the people with $2 million homes, and so on.
If the trend continues at the same pace it did in 2008, the housing market ought to be in absolute fucking chaos some time in january or february.
