Usually bots will patrol the threads in pairs/teams and comment close to the same time directed at a poster.
Or sometimes a single bot will make a comment that has nothing to do with the thread, or is a copypasta. >Shortly after that has happened multiple bots coded to look for that text will swarm the thread, like they've seen a flare, and start up a conversation with the original CopyPasta poster. Then that bot will start a realistic argument with another bot to waste threadspace and distract from the thread in general.
Mind you, none of the things they are saying are even on topic and they will respond normally/logically to you if you reply to them.
They are built by A.I. Analytics teams from PR/Advertising/Marketing companies hired by the DNC and others.
Hess companies sometimes have 50+ copyrighters on their staff that have time to sit and create all of the scripts/commentary/back and forth dialogue/responses that are then updated to a database the coders keep for the bots.

That's what they are doing. They scanned all of KnowYourMeme, Jow Forums, etc and prepared a study for the E.U. about meme usage, frequency, and "hate speech"
so basically the memes would have to continue getting more complicated so they cant just have an ai that is fed heaps of examples for the robot vision but people have to prep them image by image taking exponentially longer to auto censor the memes
