These packages would not have qualified for the "large envelope" rate because a "large envelope" has to be of consistent thickness (meaning not lumpy/irregular) and no thicker than 3/4". Obviously these packages wouldn't fit that description, so they were first class.

So what does all that mean? Nothing, except that the post office is lazy about canceling and weighing packages that aren't handed to them at the counter.
