There are two villages, one has a great wine industry and is rich as a result. Village two hates them and creates a cheap knock off wine industry, stealing their labels and selling wine pinched with sugar. First village has 30 wine employees laid off, their families become poor, some commit suicide. The second village has one corrupt asshole making money using migrant slave labor. Customers are sold an inferior product, some go blind from the ethanol village two boss used to stretch his wine “product”.

Isn’t free trade great? Why would anyone put tariffs and quotas and regulatory checks on village two’s wine? I mean, are you all... communists?

If you are being exploited by other countries tariffs, you play the tariff war until fairness is achieved or you give up. America has the economic power to win any tariff arm war. NAFTA 2.0 is a good idea. The agreement needed an update. But trade wars are bullshit and it equates to an effective tax increase on consumers.

Tariffs are good for a nation's consumers and bad for its producers. Post Nixon shock economics have focused purely on the consumer side not considering that people are both.

We've maxed out our consumerism and production is negligible. The common Man needs to produce to have some semblance of satisfaction with life. Tariffs are harmful to shareholders and we all know who makes up that class.

Are you stupid? They then enable domestic companies to compete because they can now produce that good at less than the price you paid for the chinese shit. This boosts the domestic economy keeping more money within and thus offsetting the higher price.

"Free trade" is a meme and only benefits globalist megacorps. Nearly every strong economy has started out protectionist and can only engage in "free" trade when they bargain from a position of economic strength. The weaker country gets buttfucked in the first stage of free trade, in the current stage the "stronger" one gets buttfucked too as the only people profiting are rootless (((internationalists))) who have no loyalty to one land or another and only wish to line their own pockets.

Trade should be a means to acquire things you cannot acquire within your borders. The idea that you should import something because it can be made cheaper elsewhere is cancer and a huge waste of resources. Think of all the fuel spent shipping stuff that could be made domestically. China should produce goods for their citizens and America should produce goods for theirs. We should trade those resources we do not have and those products which are made at a HIGHER quality than our domestics. Trading to get cheaper, lower quality shit just makes existence miserable for all involved.

That would make that plant even more valuable if BMW wanted to continue doing business in the U.S. following tariffs.
