What nobody ever mentions when talking about Latino population gains is that many didn't identify as Latino until the 70s-80s. In 1940 they were considered legally white by default. Granted, they were a smaller percentage than today in most areas, but that doesn't mean that we wouldn't be considered at least 80% white by 1940 standards.

I realize it was an analogy, it was just a stupid one because the US and Italy have different laws about what constitutes a natural born citizen and whos an immigrant. In the US you are an immigrant if you are a citizen but weren't born in the US and a citizen period if you were born in the US or any of it's territories. The same cannot be said for Italy, so using it as a justification for reasoning doesn't make sense. This entire topic was about immigration and citizenship but you just ignored it entirely to say that someone can be American without being ethno-culturally American, which is true, and I never said someone wasn't if they weren't ethno-culturally American.
