Nah, hospitals are obligated to provide care. The homeless simply don't pay their bills. We get a bunch of homeless at my hospital who drink and do drugs, then crash at the hospital after their binges. The regular citizen getting health services gets shafted because hospitals have to make up for all the lost revenue spent on the homeless and illegals. I did a rotation at Cancer Treatment Center of America during school, and its the nicest hospital you can imagine specifically because they only take in people with insurance and don't let in the Medicaid patients.

From what I've seen having watched a lot of this sort of content, it comes down to one of three things, or some combination thereof:

1) psychological defects which are not reconciable with society (this girl even admits that she has trouble being responsible) which then usually leads to
2) drugs as a means of coping with the emotional trauma of being a malcontent which then leads to homelessness which then leads to
3) an inability to get back on their feet due to their precarious living arrangements - they have things stolen from them daily by other homeless, can't shower regularly, have trouble sleeping, have no fixed address, and as a result it's difficult to find and hold down a job.

Most all of it seems to stem from defective psychologies, but it's hard to look at up close without recognizing yourself if you've ever had any feeling of hopelessness or weakness. Maybe not everyone does, but it's clear from watching these people that they aren't playing with a full deck, so I have trouble even hating them anymore. The people I hate work in offices. They make enormous shipments of opiates to towns of 3000 people. They interfere with the mandatory rehabilitation and relocation services that these people need. Of course, I don't live in San Francisco and am far away from the worst of the Downtown East Side, so I also won't judge anyone for being miffed at these people for being walking staph infections who defecate in the open.

Good family friend I hade growing up got into drugs and is now a homeless junkie prostitute on the streets of Oakland. Her family have tried so many times to help but at this point they've just given up and cast her out of their mind. Just imagining her in that situation breaks me down, because the only memories I have of her was when she was a normal teenage girl. Through weed I've found out I have an addictive personality so I've consciously avoided anything else, especially alcohol. People need to see the possible consequences first hand before taking the risk

The homeless and poor get, in essence, free healthcare, whereas your average person with a job gets shafted with prices that are inflated to offset all the lost revenue from providing healthcare to hobos, who are rife with disease. I remember this one 40 some year old homeless, mentally retarded woman who had AIDs, chlamydia, a type of deadly pnuemonia common amongst AIDs patients (think it was pnuemocystis joroveci), MRSA, and a shit ton of other issues who racked up a crazy high bill staying in our ICU and floor for like two fucking months. She couldn't pay that bill for the life of her, so who ends up paying it in the end? Taxpayers via Medicaid and people at the hospital who can pay their bills.

We should all strive to care for one another. I think one of the many perversions of liberalism is that it is too permissive of self-destruction in the name of freedom.

A lot of these issues could be fixed if you didn't have organizations trying to prevent coerced / compulsory rehabilitation. It's easy to hate these people for being the kids you never asked for, but as I mentioned elsewhere, they are not playing with a full deck. The solution is paternal authoritarianism.

You can show someone the door to a better life, but you can't carry them through it. They have to walk that one on their own. Liberalism is certainly a problem. Lack of social scorn for poor behavior is missing, and has gotten so bad that we "accept" these behaviors as normal. I have ADHD too....I never needed pills, because dad always had a way with words that kept me on point. I knew there would be consequences for negative actions...and there was no hollow threats. If he gave me conditions for behavior, he also gave me consequences, and Ill be damned if he didn't follow through. I always say I wasn't beaten enough as a kid, and now days if you try to parent in any way that has consequences that a child understands, they will take your kids and throw you in jail.
